Eureka, California

Deep in the heart of California redwood country sits Eureka, a small town with a big place in American history. Founded during the California gold rush of the mid-nineteenth century, Eureka is named after the characteristic whoop of delight heard when gold was struck. This small yet cosmopolitan town is bordered by Humboldt Bay on one side, with gorgeous mountains covered in ancient redwood forests on all other sides. National Geographic Traveler magazine has named Eureka, California and its surrounding areas as "one of the world's top ten great places". Visitors come from all over the world to see the majestic redwoods, some of which are 350 feet tall and over 2,000 years old.
